“PETER AND THE WOLF” BY SERGEY PROKOFIEV
During the 5th edition of the Russian chamber music festival “Winter Nights on the Amstel” (Winteravonden aan de Amstel) in December 2017, 4 talented Russian musicians from the International Vladimir Spivakov Charity Foundation took part in the joint production “Peter and the Wolf” with their young Dutch counterparts. This very special performance “children playing for the children” was given by 4 Russian and 3 Dutch young virtuosos in 3 different theatres in the Netherlands: Walhalla Theatre in Rotterdam on October 18th, Luxor Theatre in Arnhem on October 21 and Schouwburg De Purmaryn in Purmerend on October 22nd. The concert for children was conducted by Mikhail Khokhlov, the director of the famous Gnessin School in Moscow for the musically gifted, and the presentation was in the hands of Frank Groothof. Those were the only adults on stage. Especially for this performance, an arrangement of the famous fairy-tale by Sergei Prokofiev was made for an ensemble of seven instruments – 4 of which played by the laureates of Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation and 3 by the winners of the Princess Christina Concours in the Netherlands. The performance was completely sold out in all the 3 theatres and the Dutch public absolutely loved it!
