GRACHTENFESTIVAL 2019
This year, there was a premiere at the Grachtenfestival: for the first time, 4 young talents from Russia, scholars and program participants of the Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation, performed in the HTD series. Both concerts took place on Saturday, August 17 at 12:00 and 13:30.
The first program was presented by 14-year-old Maria Polyakova (flute) and 13-year-old Valeria Svichkarenko (violin). Maria studies at the Central Music School at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory with docent Sergey Zhuravel, the soloist of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia (directed by V. Spivakov). She has prizes of several international competitions to her name and regularly participates in various projects to broaden her musical boundaries. Valeria is the 1st Laureate of the XI International Festival – Summer Academy of Music (Greece, 2018) and winner of several other international competitions, she studies with docent Elena Ivanova at the Special Music School for Talented Children at the Moscow State College of Musical Performance named after F. Chopin. Accompanied by the outstanding pianist Anastasia Safonova, the girls played pieces by Tchaikovsky from “Swan Lake” and Eugene Onegin, but also the bustling “Fantasia on themes from the opera “Carmen”.

The other program, performed by Yegor Sidorov (piano, 13 years old) and Maxim Samsonov (balalaika, 14 years old), consisted of pieces by Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, piano solo as well as special arrangements for piano and balalaika, the traditional Russian folk instrument. Yegor is the Grand-prix winner of the X Golden Talents Competition (Kursk, 2018). He started studying music at the age of five and currently is a scholar at the Central Music School at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory with the renowned professor Mira Marchenko. Maxim has various prizes and awards to his name from Russian and international competitions. Currently he is a student of “Nadezhda” Children’s Art School in Moscow with the famous prof. Konstantin Zakharato, who is a soloist with the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Russia named after N. P. Osipov.
